COOKING FOR A CAUSE which took place on October 5th was a successful evening at AITORO. Guests enjoyed gourmet food and watched cooking demonstrations while experiencing the latest in kitchen trends…while supporting a great cause!!!

1 in 7 Americans struggle with hunger and 1 in 5 children in Connecticut are food insecure. Food is one of the most basic needs of all human beings, yet thousands of men, women & children go to sleep hungry every night throughout the U.S. Many people throw out a good deal of “stuff” when they move. Unfortunately, a lot of this “stuff” is food that could be delivered to a family in need rather than thrown away. That’s where Move For Hunger comes in.

AITORO and Janine Vairo of the Vanderblue Team | HIGGINS GROUP Real Estate teamed up with cutting edge Knot Norm’s Catering Co. to support Move For Hunger. Let’s fight hunger together! When she’s not working to help her clients find their perfect homes, Darien Real Estate Agent Janine Vairo has become involved with the organization, Move For Hunger, which helps coordinate food donations when people clean out their kitchen closets and move from their homes.

Janine is the point person at Higgins Group | Vanderblue Team where she helps clear the pantry shelves of their sellers’ homes and drops off the donated food to the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County. Her passion for people, her love of food and cooking, and being an avid food blogger and creator of PartyStyle Box, inspired her to create this Cook-for-A-Cause event. Chef Jay LeBlanc and Janine cooked delectable butter braised steaks with garlic and rosemary for the attendees, as well as demonstrated different cooking techniques used to make the perfect dish. Linguine with freshly caught baby clams and oregano were also served, along with gourmet “adult” grilled cheese sandwiches. All dishes were paired with fine wines complimentary of AITORO, along with other delicious appetizers. Tony Aitoro gave a hands on cooking demonstration utilizing all of the unique kitchen appliances that are available at Aitoro, such as a built in steamer for the clams.

Everyone brought tons of food donations of Canned: Vegetables, Fruits, Stews, Soups, Beans, Pasta, Sauce, Dry Beans, Flour, Cereal, Oatmeal, Juice, Rice, Peanut Butter & Jelly, Crackers, Cookies. All food was dropped off at the Food Bank of Lower Fairfield County…this was a great cause for all to be involved with. It was such a success that we will be doing another Cooking Event at AITORO in December…so look out for our invitation!
