A Reality Hurricane

Written by Thora Svalgard-Karukas, Realtor | Vanderblue Team | Higgins Group Real Estate

As a child living in a waterfront home, hurricanes were exciting and fun. We all would sleep in the living room together of our mid-century modern home half of which cantilevered over the yard. Our picture windows boarded up with large sheets of plywood and the candles burned as we listened to the winds and rain and waves hit the house. The next day we would swim in swollen tides that we could dive into from our sea wall. For us kids it was fun...we didn’t know how dangerous it was or what horrible things could happen. Looking back, it’s no wonder my parents were so freaked out!

Watching the devastation caused by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma over these past months on the news makes the danger very real. Then when Hurricane Maria took out all of Puerto Rico, I felt it was time to do something, not just sit and watch.

In addition to being a Realtor and Yoga Instructor, I enjoy making home-made, all-natural beauty products. Sugar scrub is one of my favorites to make. It’s an all-natural body scrub that exfoliates and moisturizes your skin. I give it to my clients, friends and family as gifts and they love it! I get requests for “more scrub please” all the time. I have decided to offer this lovely product at my open houses for sale, with all ALL proceeds going to www.OneAmericanAppeal.com. This website was created by all the former surviving Presidents, Carter, Bush, Clinton, GW Bush and Obama, with all funds going directly to Harvey, Irma and Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief.

So join me, the Vanderblue Team, the Former Presidents and Steven Colbert (Steven is how I heard about this website) in helping Puerto Rico’s victims, and the victims of Harvey and Irma. You can either come to our Vanderblue Team open houses and buy the scrub or simply make a donation on the www.OneAmericaAppeal.com website.

Please join us in our quest to help American Citizens everywhere!
