Westport Community Organizations

One of the great pleasures of living in Westport is the joy of living in a town that values tradition and community spirit.

This spirit has never been more welcome than in the last few years as the world around has suffered from such turmoil and disruption.

Some of the most important and valuable contributors to the spirit of Westport are the community organizations that work every day to make our town a wonderful place to live and where families can thrive.

One of the oldest of these organizations is the Westport Woman’s Club which for over 125 years has been a pillar of our community and a source of joy and purpose for thousands of members.

While you may not know the Westport Woman’s Club you will certainly know their signature event - the Westport Yankee Doodle Fair - held every year on the club’s own property on Father’s Day Weekend, behind the Levitt pavilion.

The Yankee Doodle Fair is the most prominent of many fund raising events that make it possible for the WWC to award grants every year to many local organizations and scholarships to Staples High School seniors who are looking for financial help as they head off to college.  This year, thanks to a member’s bequest and another member’s matching donation, the WWC was able to donate a new Ambulance to Westport’s volunteer EMS.

In addition to raising money for grants and scholarships, the WWC houses the Town of Westport’s food closet.  They also run the “Curio Cottage” on the grounds which accepts donations for household items in good condition and sells them at reasonable prices.

As our community welcomes many new residents from all over the country, it is reassuring to know that the traditions of our wonderful town are being maintained by our grass roots organizations and few can match the benevolence, community spirit and fellowship provided by the Westport Woman’s Club.
