Here are some of the highlights from Colleen and Melissa's conversation with Ed Moncino as they talk about his experience running his business in the Greenfield Hill neighborhood of Fairfield.
Q: How long have you been in business?
A: We have been here at Lexington Home & Garden for the past 10 years.
Q: What inspired you to start your business?
A: There used to be two gift shops here in Greenfield Hills (Pickett's and Country Mouse). When Pickett's was going out of business, we approached Laura to see if she wanted to sell the business. At that point she didn't, but we decided to open our own store. She didn't want us to take the building that she was in because of the condition...She told us, "If I ever had to do it again, I would want the space where Country Mouse was." We contacted the landlord and found out that Country Mouse was closing as well, so without even looking at the space, we said we'll take it. And here we are 10 years later!
Q: What would you like the public to know about your business?
A: We try and carry interesting and different things, so not the things you're going to find in most stores. We also like to promote and support our local vendors, artists and artisans...We do as much as we can with the local businesses.
Q: Do you have anything new or exciting that you'd like to share?
A: In April we will be celebrating our 10 year anniversary! Look for an event that we're going to be doing in May, our Instagram is @LexingtonHomeAndGarden.
