20 Things to do on Mother's Day in Connecticut

1. Take mom outside for some sunshine

Does your mom like to spend time outside? Maybe go for a walk on a trail at the Bartlett Arboretum or the beach with coffee in hand.

2. Indulge in some sweets

Take part in a cake decorating class or visit a local chocolate store and try something new. I love Bridgewater Chocolate in Westport- they are divine!

3. Visit a fair

There are lots and lots of fairs going on to stroll through and shop in. There are Springtime fairs, pop-up markets and craft fairs all happening just in time for Mother's Day.

4. Go to a museum

Take in the unique exhibits at the Barker, Character, Comic & Cartoon Museum (Moms get in FREE!), Under the Canopy at the CT Science Center or the UCONN Arboretum (reservations required).

5. Take Mom to a tea party

Little sandwiches, music, flowers, table-cloths....and inflatables? Yes. Attend the Mother's Day Tea at Romp n Roll! Maybe you'd prefer something a little more dainty such as the Mother's Day Tea and Garden Party instead.

6. Make some candles with the whole family

Treat Mom to a one-of-a-kind scented candle or bring everyone to a family-friendly create-a-candle at a Sip n' Pour event.

7. Visit Old Wethersfield

Bring the family to Bicycles on Main in Old Wethersfield. This quaint town has antique shops, coffee shops, and of course, stop at the Heirloom Market at Comstock-Ferre for some amazing seeds for the garden.

8. Enjoy the blooms of springtime

Wade through a sea of beautiful flowers at Colorblends Home and Garden. Tulips, crocus, snowdrops, and other types of spring blossoms are all exploding in color.

9. Take Mom to a live production

Dandelion the Musical, the story of a shy, awkward lion, is being performed live on both days during Mother's Day weekend (the 13th is the Sensory Friendly performance).

10. Pack a picnic for a visit to a scenic park with a playground

Sandwiches, drinks, dessert: check. Bring a camera too, because these parks are beautiful as well as tons of fun for the kids.

11. Experience nature up close

Get your cameras ready for adorable pictures of baby animals at one of these petting zoos in Connecticut.

12. Go out to breakfast all together (Windsor)

Sausages, pancakes, French toast, coffee and orange juice...go out to breakfast with Mom and then go on a bicycle ride in the Hartford-area or Fairfield-area.

13.  Keep it fun and FREE

Mother's Day weekend has a few free events to take advantage such as New Britain Museum of American Art free Saturday morning and the Mother's Day festvities at Terrain.

14. Take a special day trip as a family

Take your whole family on a short drive to a new place like Newport, Rhode Island, the Berkshires or Mystic.

15. Get crafty with Mom

Connecticut Art School is offering a Mommy and Me painting class for Mother's Day. Come and paint with your mom and create a forever memory.

16. Meet some alpacas

Does mom like soft, furry, sweet-hearted animals? Celebrate Mother's Day a day early on open farm day, May 13, at Roaring Acres Alpacas. These animals are cute as can be and so friendly.

17. Find a place to see and select pretty blooms

The flowers are blooming! Take mom to see some stunning flowers or even select some to come home with you from one of these locations.

18. Take a Tour of Connecticut Lighthouses

One thing Connecticut is famous for is the shoreline. Bring mom on a tour of a few of our most famous lighthouses and then stop for some crabs legs and seafood.

19. Pick up a dozen outstanding cupcakes for Mom

Bakeries that specialize in cupcakes know their business with flavors like Raspberry Lemonade, Chocolate Cherry Cheesecake and Cookie Dough Cheesecake. Get Mom the best cupcakes she will ever have in the Fairfield area or Hartford area.

20. Take her out for a special meal

There are lots of special Mother's Day Brunches and Breakfasts in Connecticut that mom will like.

Happy mothers day!
