  • Remarks addendumThe most ambitious local example of the Mediterranean Revival style, 2 East Meadow was part of Wilton's first premier neighborhood, the Chestnut Hill subdivision, developed in the late 1920s and early 1930s as a residential cluster of distinctive, custom homes. It is the work of New York architect Frederick S. Stone, who, with his brother William, were renowned for their country houses. The Chestnut Hill subdivision, platted in 1928, reflects the vision of builder/designer and later architect, Frazier Forman Peters, and represents the most extensive grouping of his work. Peters is famous for his stone houses, and the fieldstone chimney and three-story tower of 2 East Meadow's mainly stucco exterior echo that taste. The house is included on the exclusive 1989 Architectural Survey of historically significant Wilton homes, assembled by the Connecticut Historical Commission. With its tiled hip roof and open, three-bay arcade, 2 East Meadow has been called by local historians “one of the most distinctive of all the original homes in the subdivision.” Its Mediterranean style borrows from Italian and Spanish design and remains rare for Wilton. This home was for sometime known as the Dhurrie House because noted collectors Marion and Paul Dhurrie lived there from 1960 until 1985. It is a collector's, and any home owner's, dream. The homeowner has invested over $700,000 in improvements including but not limited to: updated heating system (low-profile European Runtal brand steam units), central air (1st and 2nd floors), the sunroom on 2nd floor, irrigation system, pergola, copper gutters and downspouts, two new wells (irrigation and house), new furnace and hot water heater, radiant heat in kitchen, new windows, security system, new kitchen with Wood-mode cabinets and high end appliances, updated bathrooms, Glengate pool and landscaping. Heated garage. Sleek, low-profile European style Runtal steam heating units in Master Bedroom Sunroom and Kitchen . Electric heat in Family Room. NOTE: House has dedicated driveway--NOT a shared driveway--entrances from both front and back of property.
